Following the March 26, 2026, Løgting general election, trader consensus heavily favors Beinir Johannesen of the People's Party at 97.7% implied probability to become the next Prime Minister, reflecting his party's top performance with nine seats—the largest bloc in the 33-seat parliament—up from six previously, amid a fragmented field requiring a coalition of at least 17 seats for a majority government. The outgoing Social Democratic-led coalition under Aksel V. Johannesen, his uncle, lost ground to six seats, prompting resignation announcements and tasking Johannesen with leading broad coalition talks across ideological lines. While negotiations proceed amid housing and youth retention priorities sidelining independence debates, scenarios like a rival alliance excluding the People's Party or prolonged deadlock could challenge this path, though historical patterns favor the leading party's chairman in such formations.
