California's 48th congressional district primary on June 2, 2026, featured a top-two format after redistricting under Proposition 50 shifted the San Diego-area seat toward greater competitiveness, prompting Republican incumbent Darrell Issa's retirement. County Supervisor Jim Desmond secured Republican backing and led with strong support, while San Diego Councilmember Marni von Wilpert topped Democratic contenders ahead of Ammar Campa-Najjar and others. These results position Desmond and von Wilpert for the November general election, where factors such as voter turnout in the newly configured district and national midterm dynamics could influence outcomes.
