In the ATP Challenger Yokkaichi semifinals on outdoor hard courts, 33-year-old veteran Yasutaka Uchiyama (ATP 308) holds a clear experience edge over 21-year-old Hayato Matsuoka (ATP 376), with no prior head-to-head. Uchiyama advanced dominantly, crushing Fajing Sun 6-1 6-2 in quarters after straight-set wins earlier, leveraging his 82% hold rate and 73% first-serve points won on hard over the past year amid a 10-3 2026 hard-court record. Matsuoka showed grit, claiming Soonwoo Kwon's retirement at 4-6 6-2 4-2 after solid prior victories, with competitive 37% return points won. Match reached set 3 tied (per reports), but Uchiyama's recent medical timeout for left quad/hip treatment introduces mobility risk on a fast surface favoring his first-strike tennis.
