Frances Tiafoe holds a strong edge entering his second-round matchup against Rinky Hijikata at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston, driven by his proven success on this green-set clay—highlighted by the 2023 title, consecutive finals in 2024-25, and a 13-6 event record—contrasting Hijikata's limited ATP clay results. Hijikata notched his first 2026 clay win in the opener, defeating Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 6-2, building on upsets like top-10 Alexander Bublik at Indian Wells, but faces a stylistic mismatch against Tiafoe's superior athleticism and baseline power. Tiafoe leads their head-to-head 2-1, including a straight-sets victory in Delray Beach last month; recent Sunshine Double depth (R16 Miami, strong Indian Wells) underscores trader consensus favoring the No. 18 seed amid no reported injuries or withdrawals.
