The Iranian rial's free-market exchange rate against the USD, tracked on Bonbast.com, stands near 1.58 million IRR per dollar as of early April 2026, reflecting ongoing depreciation fueled by intensified US Treasury sanctions in late February targeting illicit oil sales and weapons procurement networks. Hyperinflation, cash shortages prompting the March 23 issuance of Iran's largest-ever currency denomination, and failed central bank interventions have eroded confidence, with the rate hitting record lows above 1.6 million earlier in the year amid economic protests. No major diplomatic breakthroughs or policy deadlines loom before April 30, though oil price swings, regional tensions, or further sanctions enforcement could accelerate weakening, underscoring persistent structural pressures from restricted foreign currency inflows.
