Romania's political landscape shifted sharply after the May 5, 2026, no-confidence vote that ended Ilie Bolojan's centrist coalition government. President Nicușor Dan has since held informal and formal consultations with parties to identify a nominee capable of securing a parliamentary majority, with early elections ruled out. Trader consensus currently places Eugen Tomac in the lead, reflecting his role as a presidential advisor and potential bridge for pro-European stability amid coalition talks. Alexandru Nazare follows as acting finance minister, positioned for continuity on fiscal policy during budget negotiations. Lower probabilities for figures such as Sorin Grindeanu and Cătălin Predoiu align with party-specific hurdles and the emphasis on technocratic options that could command broader support before formal nomination.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
