Haiti's Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) reaffirmed its commitment to the August 30, 2026, first-round presidential and legislative elections through a revised electoral calendar announced May 1, restarting suspended voter and candidate registration processes delayed in early April due to decree alignments with the National Pact for Stability. This follows Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé's April 25 rejection of the CEP's $250 million budget as excessive amid 22% inflation and security costs, yet no postponement of the core vote date has materialized. Ongoing UN-backed Gang Suppression Force deployments against armed groups controlling Port-au-Prince bolster trader consensus at 63.5% against further delays, though candidate vetting, funding resolutions, and access to polling sites remain pivotal risks in the transitional government's push for constitutional order.
