With the 2026 MLB regular season barely a week old as of April 4, early standings show the New York Yankees surging at 6-1 atop the AL East, Milwaukee Brewers at 5-1 leading NL Central and wild card, and surprise Miami Marlins at 5-2 in the NL East wild card chase alongside the Dodgers (5-2). FanGraphs projections maintain Dodgers (98.5% playoff odds), Yankees (85.4%), and Mariners (78.3%) as frontrunners due to elite rotations and offensive depth, though small-sample volatility reigns. Recent developments include Boston Red Sox and Marlins hot starts defying expectations, plus injuries like Mets' Juan Soto calf tightness and Diamondbacks prospect Jordan Lawlar's fractured wrist. Traders eye roster health, pitching rotations, and schedule strength amid the 162-game grind toward the expanded 12-team postseason.
