Trader consensus reflects an 88.5% implied probability for Lionel Messi to feature in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, propelled by his commanding displays in Argentina's final home friendlies—including a goal and assist in the 5-0 thrashing of Zambia at La Bombonera on March 31—proving his enduring elite form at age 39. Coach Lionel Scaloni's public advocacy, stating he'll "do everything possible" for Messi to defend the title "for the good of football," combined with the forward's Inter Miami extension through 2028 and prior expressions of desire, solidify frontrunner status despite his "day-by-day" stance. No retirement signals amid strong fitness leave slim room for upsets ahead of the June 16 opener versus Algeria.
