Stefanos Tsitsipas enters this Roland Garros second-round matchup with a strong historical edge on clay at the French Open, where he previously defeated Matteo Arnaldi in four sets during the 2024 fourth round and holds an overall 1-0 head-to-head lead. The Greek player, ranked around 79th, arrives after a first-round retirement win but has dealt with inconsistent results and ranking drops in 2026 despite his established baseline game suited to slower surfaces. Arnaldi, currently near 104th and returning from injury issues that limited training, showed positive clay momentum with a four-set opening victory over Tallon Griekspoor and three ATP-level clay wins this season. Both players have limited consecutive-match success recently, making rest, fitness, and adaptation to the red dirt key variables in what shapes as a competitive encounter between experience and emerging form.
