Aleksandar Kovacevic, ranked No. 92, holds a slight edge over No. 98 Rinky Hijikata in their U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships round-of-32 clash on Houston's outdoor clay courts, buoyed by a 1-0 head-to-head lead from a 6-1, 7-6(5) qualifying win in Cincinnati 2024. Both arrived rested after early Miami Masters exits—Kovacevic fell to Rei Sakamoto, Hijikata to Adam Walton—marking their first clay action of 2026 amid career records showing limited success on the surface (Kovacevic YTD 8-8 overall). The slower conditions favor defensive grinding, with no reported injuries or withdrawals; home-crowd support for the American could influence a closely contested matchup reflecting trader consensus on form and rankings.
