Trader consensus prices Fabiano Caruana as a slim favorite at 27% implied probability to win the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament, edging Hikaru Nakamura's 22% on Caruana's proven classical pedigree as 2024 FIDE Circuit winner and recent runner-up finishes despite late stumbles in Saint Louis Masters. Nakamura holds the top FIDE rating at 2810, but his rapid/blitz dominance tempers enthusiasm for the double round-robin format. Rising stars Praggnanandhaa R (15%, 2025 FIDE Circuit topper) and Javokhir Sindarov (14.5%, 2025 World Cup champion) keep the field bunched, fueled by strong qualification paths and recent online surges like Sindarov's multiple Titled Tuesday victories. With Round 1 underway in Cyprus—Caruana-Nakamura headline—the parity in ratings (2698-2810) and mixed pre-event form underscores a tightly contested race absent a dominant force like past Magnus Carlsen cycles.
