California's 3rd Congressional District top-two primary on June 2 features incumbent Ami Bera leading a crowded Democratic field including Heidi Hall, Chris Bennett, and Lyndon Cervantes, alongside Republicans Christine Bish, Laura Koscki, Robb Tucker, and Green candidate Chris Richardson. Mid-decade redistricting via Proposition 50 has transformed the suburban Sacramento seat into a Democratic-leaning battleground, with Kamala Harris carrying it 53%-43% in 2024, boosting trader focus on split Democratic votes potentially allowing a Republican advance. Bera holds a fundraising edge with $1.9 million cash-on-hand as of late March. Recent Sacramento Bee editorials and candidate forums underscore local priorities like economy and housing; early voting starts May 4, with turnout key in this nonpartisan primary.
