South Carolina lawmakers are advancing proposals to redraw congressional district lines ahead of the 2026 midterms, with particular focus on altering boundaries in the state’s only Democratic-held seat currently represented by long-serving incumbent Jim Clyburn. These redistricting efforts, prompted by a recent Supreme Court ruling limiting the use of race in map drawing, have strengthened Republican positioning in the November general election by potentially shifting voter demographics in the district. Primary contests scheduled for June 9 will further clarify candidate fields for both parties, while early fundraising and polling trends reflect heightened GOP interest in the seat. Traders appear to weigh the procedural momentum in the state legislature as the dominant near-term factor supporting a Republican outcome over Democratic continuity.
