The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals, both competing in the tight NL Central race, recently saw the Cardinals take two of three in a May series at Great American Ball Park, highlighted by strong offensive outputs including multiple home runs and quality starts from their rotation. Entering late May, St. Louis sits a few games ahead of Cincinnati in the standings with a slightly better overall record and recent momentum from divisional play. Key factors include injury updates such as the Reds placing starter Graham Ashcraft on the 60-day injured list, contrasting lineups featuring emerging power from players like Elly De La Cruz and Jordan Walker, and typical home/road splits for these NL Central rivals. Upcoming schedule strength and bullpen reliability will influence outcomes in their remaining matchups this season.
