Trader consensus reflects uncertainty around Patrick Mahomes' recovery from a torn ACL and LCL suffered late in the 2025 season, pricing him at 43.5% to start Week 1 despite his public goal and recent positive updates from Andy Reid, who expressed full confidence in a timely return. The Chiefs addressed potential early absences by trading for Justin Fields from the Jets in mid-March, positioning the mobile former first-rounder at 26% as high-upside insurance with his $10 million guaranteed salary. Free agent Gardner Minshew, who went 0-1 as a late-2025 starter behind an injured Mahomes, leads challengers at 31.1% due to his familiarity with Andy Reid's offense. Veteran Joe Flacco (22.9%) offers a proven bridge option, while practice squad holdover Chris Oladokun lags at 3.4%. Ongoing rehab progress and cap-friendly restructures keep the market tightly contested entering the 2026 draft.

If the Chiefs do not name a single player as the starting quarterback, the market will resolve based on the player who takes the most snaps at quarterback during their first offensive drive of the game. If multiple players take the same number of snaps on the Chiefs’ first offensive drive, the market will resolve to the player who took the first snap at quarterback.
This market may not resolve before the start of the Chiefs’ Week 1 regular season game.
The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the NFL (NFL.com); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
