OpenAI's Codex usage limits, which combine rolling five-hour windows and weekly caps across ChatGPT plans, drive trader focus on reset frequency amid heavy demand for its AI coding features. Engineering lead Thibault Sottiaux has announced multiple global resets in September 2026 tied to milestones like the GPT-6 Astra rollout and user growth, including a full reset on September 12 that refreshed limits for paid users. These actions follow earlier adjustments, such as restoring the five-hour cap in late August after a temporary lift during capacity strain, alongside bug fixes for background compute tracking. Banked resets and credit purchases offer flexibility for Plus, Pro, and Business subscribers, while competitive pressure from rival coding tools and new model releases like Astra shapes OpenAI's compute management. Upcoming catalysts include further product launches or capacity updates that could prompt additional resets.
