Top-seeded Ben Shelton, the world No. 9 and 2024 champion at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships, holds strong trader consensus favoritism entering his second-round clash against wildcard Zhizhen Zhang on Houston's River Oaks clay. Shelton's improved clay prowess—bolstered by a Dallas Open title in February and recent practice sessions—contrasts Zhang's lower ranking around No. 260 and modest 2026 form, though the Chinese player advanced comfortably past Jack Pinnington Jones in R1 on Monday. Their head-to-head stands at 1-1, last meeting in 2024 Rome, but Shelton's home-court edge, higher baseline power, and rest advantage as top seed shape the implied probabilities amid best-of-three sets on outdoor clay with no reported injuries.
