Liam Broady (ATP No. 282) holds the ranking edge over Hayato Matsuoka (No. 366) in their first-round-of-16 clash at the outdoor hard-court Miyazaki Challenger, where trader sentiment leans toward the Brit due to his stronger recent Challenger results, including a dominant 7-6(3), 6-1 R32 win over Kaichi Uchida yesterday. Matsuoka, buoyed by home-crowd support, advanced via 7-6(4), 6-3 over Kasidit Samrej in his opener, building on a 6-4, 6-2, ret. quarterfinal upset of Soonwoo Kwon in Yokkaichi last week. Broady's 72% win rate over the past year outpaces Matsuoka's 58%, though the Japanese player's surface familiarity could fuel an upset in mild spring conditions.
