Trader consensus positions Fabiano Caruana as the narrow favorite at 31% implied probability for the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament in Cyprus, driven by his six prior appearances, runner-up finish at the Saint Louis Masters two weeks ago, and steady classical results despite a Freestyle World Championship final loss to Magnus Carlsen in February. Hikaru Nakamura trails closely at 19.5% as the top-rated contender at 2810 FIDE, bolstered by positive head-to-head records against four field members, including a 12-8 classical edge over Caruana. Javokhir Sindarov's rapid ascent to world #12 at 2745 rating fuels his 15.5% standing, while R Praggnanandhaa's Circuit qualification is offset by a dismal Tata Steel Masters showing with just one win in 13 rounds. The double round-robin begins March 29 with Caruana-Nakamura in Round 1.
