Peyton Stearns (WTA No. 46) meets McCartney Kessler (No. 53) in the Credit One Charleston Open Round of 16 on green clay, pitting two Americans with contrasting paths to this all-American clash. Kessler rides hot tournament momentum, rallying past Elvina Kalieva in three sets before dominating No. 41 Janice Tjen 6-2, 6-1, despite a modest career 29% clay win rate over the last 52 weeks. Stearns, fresh off her Austin title and a 69% clay success rate in that span, grinded out a 7-6(7), 7-5 win over Ashlyn Krueger. No prior head-to-head favors Stearns' baseline reliability on the surface, though Kessler's fresher legs from fewer sets could test her in extended rallies.
