New York Mets (3-1) carry early-season momentum into Thursday's series opener at Oracle Park against the slumping San Francisco Giants (1-3), with lefty David Peterson (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 3 K) starting for New York opposite a Giants TBD; Peterson's sharp spring transition bolsters a Mets rotation tested minimally so far. Both bullpens face strain from injured list absences—Mets missing relievers A.J. Minter (lat) and Tylor Megill (elbow), Giants without Hayden Birdsong (elbow, season) and others—potentially amplifying late-game volatility. Giants leverage home-field advantage in the cavernous, pitcher-friendly park amid mild 65°F weather, while Mets' hot NL East start contrasts San Francisco's NL West struggles after a 1-3 opening.
