Chicago Cubs host the Washington Nationals in game two at Wrigley Field, seeking a split after dropping the opener 10-4 amid an early-season offensive barrage by Washington. Trader consensus hinges on the pitching matchup, with Cubs prospect Cade Horton (11-4, 2.67 ERA last season) facing former Cardinals righty Miles Mikolas (8-11, 4.84 ERA), against whom Chicago hitters slugged .556 lifetime. Cubs injuries sideline Justin Steele (60-day elbow), Seiya Suzuki (knee), and Jordan Wicks (forearm), thinning rotation and outfield depth despite additions like Michael Conforto, who's out of the lineup for a second straight day. Nationals counter with key absences including Josiah Gray (flexor) and DJ Herz (60-day), but ride opener momentum and CJ Abrams' availability. Home/away splits and Wrigley wind could sway totals in this low-stakes early matchup.
