Tommy Paul holds a decisive edge as the top seed and world No. 21 against No. 101 Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in the Houston round of 16 on outdoor clay at River Oaks Country Club, their first head-to-head matchup. The 28-year-old American leverages superior ATP experience and a decade-old first-tour win here, while the 21-year-old Paraguayan qualifier surges on momentum from demolishing No. 82 Zachary Svajda in straight sets during first-round action on March 30. Paul's consistent baseline play suits clay prep for majors, contrasting Vallejo's emerging clay prowess amid no reported injuries or withdrawals; weather forecasts suggest mild Houston conditions with low upset risk for the April 1 clash.
