Botic van de Zandschulp, ranked No. 62 and the No. 8 seed, holds a clear edge over No. 114 Francesco Maestrelli in their first-round Bucharest Open clash on red clay, buoyed by a recent Miami second-round appearance where he upset Denis Shapovalov before falling to Taylor Fritz. Maestrelli arrives in poor form, dropping his last three hard-court matches, including qualifying exits at Indian Wells and Miami. Though both lack 2026 clay results, Maestrelli's career clay record (123-96) slightly outpaces van de Zandschulp's (171-104), potentially aiding the Italian underdog in this round-of-32 matchup amid the European clay swing. No injuries reported; outdoor conditions could influence baseline rallies.
