Both the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals enter this early-season matchup at Nationals Park with identical 3-2 records, reflecting trader consensus on a closely contested affair amid balanced probabilities. Cardinals gained momentum shutting out the Mets 3-0 on March 31 behind solid pitching, after splitting a series with the Rays, while Nationals exploded for 13 runs in a rout of the Phillies on March 30 following a split at the Cubs. Key absences loom—Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar remains on the 60-day injured list post-surgery, and Nationals' rotation depth is thinned by Josiah Gray and DJ Herz on 60-day ILs. Probable starters are TBD, with Nationals holding home-field edge and mild April weather forecast; historical head-to-head favors St. Louis slightly, but fresh form keeps it tight.
