Tommy Paul, the No. 4 seed and world No. 21, holds a clear edge as trader consensus favorite entering the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships round of 16 with a first-round bye, fresh off a competitive quarterfinal loss to Arthur Fils at the Miami Masters on hard courts. Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, ranked No. 101, impressed in his opener with a dominant 6-1, 6-4 straight-sets win over No. 82 Zachary Svajda, showcasing baseline grinding suited to Houston's outdoor clay. No prior head-to-head exists, but Paul's superior experience, YTD 15-7 record, and home-crowd support outweigh Vallejo's rising form from recent Challenger clay results; watch for weather delays or fatigue in the longer rallies typical of the surface.
