In the Bucharest Open qualifying final on outdoor clay, closely ranked ATP No. 189 Alex Molcan faces No. 185 Jay Clarke after both secured straight-sets Q1 wins within the last 24 hours—Molcan dominating Billy Harris 6-1, 7-6, and Clarke defeating wildcard Gabriel Ghetu. Molcan, a former top-40 clay specialist with a 3-1 record on the surface this year, seeks to rebound from sparse early-season form including a recent Zadar Challenger loss, while Clarke builds momentum from a Miami qualifying victory over Shintaro Mochizuki a fortnight ago. Clarke leads their lone head-to-head 1-0 from a 2016 hard-court futures event, marking their clay debut; no injuries reported, with steady baseline rallies likely key on the slower surface.
