Nicolas Mejia enters as the clear ranking favorite at No. 171 against Rodrigo Alujas (No. 714) in the San Luis Potosi Challenger round of 16 on outdoor red clay, their first head-to-head encounter. Mejia, boasting a superior 136-89 career clay record and a perfect 3-0 YTD on the surface, grinded out a three-set win over Alex Hernandez in the opener, building momentum after mixed hard-court results earlier in 2026. Alujas, a 23-year-old Mexican riding home-crowd energy, notched a straight-sets upset of Theodore Winegar but carries a 42-38 lifetime clay mark and 2-1 YTD. No injuries reported; trader consensus weighs Mejia's experience heavily amid Alujas' upset potential.
