**Positive consensus GDP forecasts and resilient recent data underpin the 89.5% market-implied probability of no UK recession in 2026.** Major institutions project 2026 growth between 0.8% and 1.2%, including the OBR near 1.4%, EY at 0.9%, OECD at 0.9%, and IMF around 1.0%, reflecting a modest expansion rather than contraction. Q1 2026 real GDP rose 0.6% quarter-on-quarter, with May 2026 showing a 0.1% monthly gain after April’s dip, supported by steady consumption and a labor market with unemployment near 5%. The Bank of England’s policy rate at 3.75% and contained energy-price effects from Middle East disruptions in baseline scenarios further anchor expectations, though prolonged Strait of Hormuz issues remain the key downside risk that could pressure inflation and real incomes. August CPI and the next Monetary Policy Report are near-term data points that could refine these probabilities.
