Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins secured first place in Alaska’s August 18, 2026, open primary for governor by capturing 22.5% of the vote, narrowly ahead of Democratic rival Tom Begich at 20.8%, with Republicans Bernadette Wilson and Dave Bronson finishing third and fourth. This outcome reflected Kreiss-Tomkins’ stronger performance across Southeast Alaska and rural areas, combined with effective fundraising and a bipartisan legislative record as a former state representative. Begich’s subsequent withdrawal and endorsement on August 29 further consolidated Democratic support behind Kreiss-Tomkins ahead of the ranked-choice general election. Trader consensus at 99% for Kreiss-Tomkins as primary leader stems from these certified vote tallies and the absence of viable pathways for other candidates. Late shifts remain possible only through final certification of outstanding mail ballots or successful legal challenges to results, both of which carry low probability given the margin and established counting procedures.
