Recent preliminary University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment data at 48.9, driven by early-June gasoline price easing following Middle East supply disruptions, anchors trader positioning near the 49.0–51.9 band. The 9% month-over-month rebound from May’s record low of 44.8 exceeded consensus forecasts yet left the index 19% below year-ago levels amid elevated inflation concerns, with one-year expectations at 4.6%. Persistent cost-of-living pressures and subdued assessments of personal finances create competitive dynamics between the leading 49.0–51.9 and 46.0–48.9 intervals. The final June reading scheduled for June 26 remains the key near-term catalyst that could shift probabilities based on any revisions or fresh energy-price movements.
