Federal indictment of the Southern Poverty Law Center on April 21, 2026, for 11 counts of wire fraud, false statements to banks, and conspiracy to commit money laundering has shaped trader views, citing undisclosed payments exceeding $3 million to informants linked to extremist organizations between 2014 and 2023. The organization entered a not guilty plea in May, with a superseding indictment issued in June and a tentative October trial date set in federal court in Alabama. Ongoing motions to dismiss, claims of selective prosecution tied to administration priorities, and assessments questioning case strength introduce uncertainty ahead of resolution. This procedural timeline and contested allegations underpin the 64% implied probability for a guilty finding in 2026.
