Louisiana’s 6th congressional district holds an open primary on November 3, 2026, under the state’s jungle primary rules that require a majority for an outright win and send the top two finishers to a December runoff otherwise. Ten candidates qualified after redistricting shifted the district toward a stronger Republican tilt, with no incumbent on the ballot. An August poll showed the frontrunners at roughly 19 percent, 16 percent, and single digits, with 40 percent undecided, illustrating a fragmented field across both parties. This vote split, combined with the district’s partisan composition and the absence of any dominant candidate, underpins trader consensus that no one will clear 50 percent on the first ballot. Late candidate withdrawals or an unforeseen consolidation of support could still alter the outcome before November.
