Kevin Kiley, the former Republican incumbent who switched districts and party affiliation to no party preference following redistricting under Proposition 50, leads early returns in the June 2, 2026, top-two primary for California's 6th Congressional District. A crowded Democratic field that includes former state Senator Richard Pan, Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho, and others has split support, allowing little-known Republican Michael Stansfield to hold second place in preliminary counts despite limited resources and no major endorsements. Mail ballots still being tallied could shift final standings before certification, as Democratic voters often participate more heavily in later counts. The outcome determines which two candidates advance to the November general election in the newly configured Sacramento-area district.
