Eva Lys (world No. 77) meets Katie Volynets (No. 95) in the Credit One Charleston Open first round on green clay, with Lys leading their head-to-head 1-0 from a 2022 Lausanne clay win. Both exited the Miami Open early—Lys falling to Yuliia Starodubtseva and Volynets to Tereza Valentova—prompting a quick transition to clay where Volynets boasts home-crowd energy and prior Charleston success, like her 2025 first-round 6-0, 6-0 rout. Lys, after peaking at No. 39 in January, aims to leverage her all-court game, while Volynets' baseline grinding could exploit any rust. No injuries noted; the draw's recent unveiling highlights this evenly matched opener amid mild forecast conditions.
