SpaceX achieved a pivotal milestone with Flight 13 in July 2026, when the Version 3 Starship upper stage completed a controlled reentry, deployed Starlink satellites, and achieved the program’s first intact splashdown, validating heat shield performance and terminal guidance. Elon Musk confirmed post-flight data showed the landing was precise enough for a tower catch, prompting plans to attempt the first orbital-class Ship recovery with Mechazilla’s chopstick arms on Flight 14. This requires achieving full orbit, precise deorbit timing, and sub-meter accuracy at the tower—far more demanding than prior Super Heavy booster catches. Hardware preparations, including catch pins and tower upgrades, are underway, though FAA approvals for the expanded landing zone and any lingering booster issues could influence the timeline. Trader sentiment reflects optimism from recent progress tempered by the unprecedented technical and regulatory hurdles ahead.

A successful catch is defined as the chopsticks capturing and supporting the Starship upper stage without it falling to the ground or causing catastrophic damage during the landing process.
If SpaceX attempts an ocean splashdown of the Starship upper stage instead of attempting to catch it using the Orbital Launch Tower's chopsticks, that attempt will not qualify. If no Starship launch occurs, or a successful catch does not take place, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No."
The resolution source for this market will be official video provided by SpaceX (https://www.youtube.com/c/SpaceX), as well as secondary video feeds and/or written reports if necessary.
