This market will resolve to “Yes” if Canada expels the United States Ambassador to Canada between market creation and December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. For the purposes of this market, “expel” refers to a formal action by Canada requiring the United States Ambassador to leave Canada, including a declaration of persona non grata. Revocation of the Ambassador’s visa or denial of entry to Canada will not alone suffice. An announcement of a qualifying expulsion will suffice for a “Yes” resolution, regardless of whether the Ambassador actually leaves the country. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Canadian government; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Canada and the United States maintain active diplomatic channels despite ongoing trade frictions, including stalled USMCA reviews, U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods, and Ottawa’s shift toward leveraging critical minerals independently. U.S. Ambassador Pete Hoekstra remains in post as of early September 2026, with both nations’ envoys describing bilateral discussions as productive and businesslike. Expulsion of an ambassador represents an exceptional measure under the Vienna Convention, typically reserved for acute crises rather than tariff or resource disputes between longstanding allies. Public petitions calling for Hoekstra’s removal have gathered significant signatures and face parliamentary consideration this fall, yet the Canadian government has shown no indication of pursuing persona non grata status. Military and security cooperation continues without interruption. A reversal before year-end would require a sharp escalation, such as formal diplomatic rupture or an unprecedented bilateral incident, neither of which current reporting indicates is underway.
