Both advanced via gritty Round of 16 victories on April 2—Wu outlasting Paul Jubb 7-6(6), 2-6, 7-6(6) after upsetting sixth seed Rio Noguchi 6-3, 6-2, while veteran Moriya dispatched James Trotter 7-6(4), 6-4 following his three-set qualifier triumph over Koki Matsuda. Competitive balance stems from Moriya's home-crowd boost and fresh legs against Wu's three-set fatigue; odds could shift on serve efficiency, break-point conversion, or any pre-match withdrawal news.
