Apple faces acute DRAM supply constraints and price spikes driven by AI demand, prompting it to test ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) chips and lobby the Trump administration for clearance on blacklisted Chinese suppliers. However, bipartisan Senate pressure, including demands for a firm commitment by late August 2026 against using CXMT or YMTC components, combined with Pentagon designations citing military ties, has reinforced trader skepticism. Testing appears limited to China-market devices, with no confirmed production orders or waivers secured. Geopolitical risks, potential export controls, and Apple’s preference for established suppliers like Samsung and Micron outweigh diversification benefits, sustaining the 75% implied probability against purchases through year-end.
