Alaska’s August 18 top-four primary features an open seat after term-limited incumbent Mike Dunleavy, with seventeen candidates vying under the state’s nonpartisan blanket system that advances the highest vote-getters to a ranked-choice general. Recent polling averages show Democrat Tom Begich leading with roughly 40-44 percent support, ahead of Republicans Click Bishop, Bernadette Wilson, and David Bronson in a crowded field that also includes independents like Bill Walker. Vote splitting among multiple Republicans appears to be the dominant factor shaping advancement odds, while early voting has begun and final candidate lists stabilized after the June withdrawal deadline. No major new endorsements or scandals have emerged in the final days to alter these patterns.
