The Philadelphia Phillies' managerial vacancy remains wide open following Alex Cora's second refusal of the job, leaving no consensus frontrunner and keeping implied probabilities tightly bunched among experienced candidates. Interim manager Don Mattingly stabilized the club after Rob Thomson's April dismissal, posting a 79-55 mark and securing a Wild Card berth despite offensive and bullpen shortcomings, while earning strong clubhouse support. An impending CBA expiration and potential lockout favor a swift internal resolution or limited external search, sustaining competitive dynamics across the field.
