Nicolás Maduro faces a June 2027 trial in the Southern District of New York on four felony counts including narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation, following his January 2026 capture during a U.S. military operation and subsequent not-guilty pleas. Defense counsel have signaled plans to seek dismissal on immunity and jurisdictional grounds tied to his former status as head of state, while pre-trial motions and potential classified-information issues remain unresolved. The extended timeline to verdict, combined with the possibility of plea negotiations, partial acquittals, or procedural delays common in complex extraterritorial cases, underpins trader consensus that conviction on every count is the less probable outcome.
