Iran's rial has faced sustained pressure from international sanctions, elevated domestic inflation exceeding 60 percent in recent estimates, and periodic spikes tied to regional tensions. In mid-July 2026 the free-market USD rate reached a record near 1.94 million rials amid renewed conflict-related uncertainty, before settling around 1.37–1.94 million depending on official versus parallel-market quotes by late July. Central-bank interventions, large-denomination note issuance, and fiscal measures have sought to stabilize the currency, yet supply constraints and capital outflows continue to influence trader assessments of whether any specific threshold would be crossed by the July 31 cutoff. No major diplomatic or policy shifts occurred in the final days of the period that altered the trajectory.
