Alaska's August 18 nonpartisan top-four primary for governor features 17 candidates seeking to advance to the November general election under ranked-choice voting, with the incumbent term-limited. Leading contenders include Democrat Tom Begich, who holds an early polling edge around 21 percent, along with Republicans Dave Bronson, Bernadette Wilson, and Click Bishop, plus Democrats Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins and independent Bill Walker. The crowded field has driven nearly $9 million in total fundraising, emphasizing name recognition, targeted spending, and recent candidate forums in Anchorage and other venues. With the vote just days away, outcomes hinge on turnout among core voting blocs and the ability of frontrunners to consolidate support in the final stretch.
