Lula holds the strongest position for first place in Minas Gerais during the October 2026 first round, backed by consistent polling leads of 31-45% in state-specific surveys from Datafolha, Quaest, and AtlasIntel through early September, outpacing main rival Flávio Bolsonaro by margins of 4-9 points. Bolsonaro trails in the low-to-mid 30s amid polarized voter sentiment and ongoing legal scrutiny tied to campaign financing matters, while other declared contenders such as Romeu Zema, Ronaldo Caiado, and Augusto Cury register in the single digits or lower. Minas Gerais, the country's second-largest electorate, has historically influenced national outcomes, and recent statewide polling trends align with Lula's broader national edge in first-round scenarios. Trader pricing reflects these dynamics, with limited movement from late-August surveys despite the tightening national contest and scheduled campaign events through early October.
