NRPUP has consolidated a commanding position as the likely second-place party in Zambia’s National Assembly following the August 13 general elections. The party, fielding Brian Mundubile as its presidential candidate, secured roughly 60 first-past-the-post seats and additional proportional-representation allocations based on national vote share, outpacing all other opposition groups amid UPND’s overall majority. This outcome reflects NRPUP’s emergence as the principal challenger after realignments from prior alliances, combined with limited candidate reach by smaller parties and independents across the expanded 226 constituencies. A handful of undeclared seats and any post-election petitions remain the main variables that could alter final tallies, though current declarations leave little scope for another grouping to overtake NRPUP’s seat total.
