ECB staff projections released September 10 revised 2026 annual growth to 0.9%, citing broad-based momentum from defense and infrastructure outlays, AI-related investment, and export gains that have offset elevated energy costs tied to Middle East tensions. August HICP inflation at 3.3% prompted the ECB’s 25-basis-point rate hike on September 10, tightening financial conditions while labor markets remain firm near 6.4% unemployment. France’s lowered 2026 forecast to 0.5% introduces some downside skew, yet sentiment indicators and PMI readings point to continued moderate expansion through the quarter ahead of the October 30 flash release.
