The primary driver remains the AI-driven memory chip supercycle, with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix comprising roughly 43-46% of assets and benefiting from elevated HBM and DRAM pricing amid sustained hyperscaler capex. Recent Bank of Korea rate hikes to 3.00%—including the second consecutive increase on August 27—reflect persistent core inflation even as GDP forecasts were revised higher to around 3.3% for 2026 on semiconductor export strength. Corporate share buybacks, foreign flow dynamics, and leverage unwinding have amplified KOSPI swings, while forward P/E multiples on key holdings remain compressed relative to earnings growth. Traders are monitoring Nvidia-related demand signals and any further policy tightening for near-term resolution impacts.
