Nominations announced in mid-August positioned six videos as frontrunners for the 2026 VMAs Best Cinematography award, with Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia,” Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” and Madonna’s “Confessions II – The Film” drawing the strongest market-implied odds amid a tightly contested field. The category is decided entirely by fan votes, which close September 25 ahead of the September 27 ceremony in Los Angeles, leaving room for late surges driven by streaming momentum, social engagement, or overall artist visibility. Historical voting patterns show strong alignment with broader popularity and visual ambition, yet the even distribution of probabilities reflects uncertainty over which cinematographer’s work—ranging from established directors of photography like Rodrigo Prieto to Janusz Kamiński—will resonate most with voters in the final days.
